The Compassion Doorway

It has been awhile since my last posting and am glad to say I am in a place to share more about our relationship with animals. I have been going through many shifts in my awareness and interesting enough what I want to share in this post is about our animal nature.

A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend and she said “I have more compassion for animals than I do people” and I resonated with what she said and could also feel a disconnection. The words we are part human, part animal and part spirit kept repeating itself as I sat with the feelings and then the words rearranged themselves in a new way and I said out loud “we came to this beautiful planet as spirit to learn how to be human in an animal world”. It was like something in the room shifted and I knew I was onto something that felt true and authentic.

We are mammals and part of the animal kingdom and rather than seeing this as part of our human makeup, we are unconscious of what it means or have a deep sense of shame. Our humanness allows us to choose. Beneath our ability to choose is a beautiful internconnected web of beingness that our dear animal companions are fortunate enough to access because of their less developed brains.

When I connect with a cat or dog or nature it is from more than just my human self. It is a whole body sense that includes the human, animal, and soul infusion. My friend helped me to see that in a clearer way. I have found that shame is a doorway into seeing a more holistic part of our selves. If we can see that it is just one of the many lessons we came here to learn we don’t have to be stuck in the negative states. From this place of wholeness compassion can truly resonate.
